The Test d'Évaluation de Français (TEF) is a benchmark test that evaluates proficiency in
French on an international level. The results remain valid for two years.
The TEF is officially recognized by :

- Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation
- French Ministry of the Interior
Test Components :
- Written Comprehension : 60 minutes, 50 questions
- Oral Comprehension : 40 minutes, 60 questions
- Written Expression : 60 minutes, 2 prompts
- Lexicon and Structure : 30 minutes, 40 questions
- Oral Expression : 15 minutes, 2 prompts
All assessments are conducted on a computer.
Target Audience :
- Participants : Suitable for students, professionals, or any individual aiming to
assess
their French proficiency levels from A1 to C2.
- Utilization : Recognized by the French Ministry of Education since 2004 for
assessing
foreign students' written and oral French skills for undergraduate admissions in
France. Additionally, it qualifies students for applying for a residence permit (level
A2) or citizenship (level B1).
Practical Information :
- Accessibility : The test can be taken at any level of French proficiency.
- Certificate : Results are digital and available within 2 weeks post-test.
- Retake Policy : Test can be retaken multiple times, with a mandatory 30-day
waiting
period between attempts, applicable to all versions of the TEF.
